MAGGI ‘Sarap Sustansya Caravan’ champions tasty, nutritious meals

What's a mom to do when she simply wants her kids to enjoy eating, while receiving the right nutrition?
It doesn't take an in-depth survey to show that every household struggles to prepare balanced meals. Flavor is often sacrificed in nutritious meals; nutrition is sacrificed in delicious dishes.
This is why MAGGI has made it an urgent mission to step forward and empower moms to cook meals that are both nutritious and delicious through the MAGGI Sarap Sustansya Caravan, a five-day event that promotes tasty, delicious, budget-friendly meals among moms in various communities. The caravan began in 2014 with Barangays Sto. Niño and Jesus dela Peña in Marikina, to champion taste and balance among the mothers there.
Recently, the MAGGI Sarap Sustansya Caravan visited Barangays Sta. Elena and Fortune in Marikina, and San Dionisio and San Antonio in Parañaque. The five-day program, led by MAGGI's Chef-Nutritionist tandem, taught moms cooking techniques for top dishes in the country through intensive lecture discussions, cooking demos and hands-on exercises.
"The program is a springboard for the moms to try more recipes using the proper techniques we taught them. It teaches moms about proper nutrition, food safety and cooking methods designed for them to cook delicious, healthy meals," MAGGI Chef Erik Magtanong said.
Susan Painza, a mother of four, joined the MAGGI Sarap Sustansya Caravan to learn the proper ways of cooking.
"Nagkainteres ako dahil pwede kong i-share kung anong matutunan ko sa mga anak ko. Kahit kasi matagal na akong nagluluto, hindi pa ako ganoon kagaling. Dito, natutunan ko kung paano iyong kalinisan, tamang pamamaraan sa pagluto at meal planning. Kailangan pala may plano talaga (I got interested to join because I can share whatever I've learned with my kids. I've been cooking for a long time, but I'm not that skilled yet. Here, I learned about cleanliness, proper cooking techniques, and meal planning. I realized how essential meal planning is," she said.
The campaign calls for Pinoy moms, Sarap Sustansya Champions, to share important lessons they've learned from the Sarap Sustansya Caravan with fellow moms. Following the five-day event is a Train the Trainers program, equipping moms to share kitchen and nutrition tips with other moms in the community.
"The MAGGI Sarap Sustansya Caravan is an advocacy that provides mothers adequate information about nutrition and how they can apply this in an affordable way to the variety of meals they can prepare for their kids and family. It doesn't stop there. The program will also empower the moms to share this knowledge to fellow mothers, not just within their family, but also within their communities," Geetha Balakrishna, Business Executive Manager of Nestle Food Business Unit, said.
The MAGGI Sarap Sustansya Caravan is slated to conduct a series of community tours nationwide in the coming years.
