Brgy. Sta. Elena in Focus
December 15, 2015
The moms in Barangay Sta. Elena, Marikina, face a lot of the same challenges that mothers all over the country experience—especially when it comes to cooking for their families. They have trouble feeding their families tasty, nutritious food within their budget. Nanay Alma Besagar shared that she has trouble feeding veggies to her picky eaters. “Yung mga gulay hindi kinakain lahat so kailangan pipiliin ko pa kung anong gulay yung bibilin ko para sa kanila”
That’s why for the 5 days that the MAGGI Sarap Sustansya Caravan visited Barangay Sta. Elena, moms were enthusiastic about learning to cook up nutritious happiness in the kitchen! These moms were eager to learn how their cooking could help nourish their families better. “Sumama ako sa Sarap Sustansya Caravan para madagdagan ang kaalaman ko sa pagluto sa bahay,” said Nanay Ginalyn Balino.
With the help of the MAGGI nutritionists and chefs, the mommies of Sta. Elena were taught how to create weekly menus, cook up tasty good-for-you meals, and the value of a balanced diet. They learned more about the importance of proper nutrition and how to make food both nutritious and delicious. Nanay Alma Besagar got more out of the experience than what she was expecting. “Natutunan namin dito kung paano magplano ng pamimili at kung ano yung mga nutrients na makukuha namin sa mga pagkain na ihahanda namin.”
The participants in Barangay Sta. Elena are now Taste and Balance Champions, trained by MAGGI. Their task is to continue to spread what they’ve learned to the other people in their community and promote the importance of a nutritious balanced diet.
Nanay Eliza Bernardo is definitely ready to take on her new Taste and Balance Champion role, saying, “Ito po ay isha-share ko sa aking pamilya, kamag-anak at ka-barangay. At sana ma-share din namin sa ibang barangay.”
